The short version

Your photos and videos never leave your device. The camera, filters, and your gallery work fully offline, with no account. If you choose to create an account to use the community features, we store only the minimum needed for those features to work — and no images, ever.

Using effct. without an account

You can use the camera, apply filters, and keep your gallery without signing up. In this mode effct. runs entirely on your device: no account, no analytics, no telemetry, and nothing is sent to us.

Photos and videos

All photos you capture or edit with effct. are stored locally on your device. They are never uploaded, transmitted, or accessed by us — including when you try a community filter, which is processed entirely on your device. When you enable "Save to Photos", media is saved directly to your device's Photo Library.

Accounts and the community

If you create an account to publish filters, follow people, like, or save, we process the following:

• Account — your email address and a securely hashed password, used to sign you in.
• Profile — your username, and optionally a display name and bio.
• Published filters — the name, description, and adjustment parameters of filters you publish. A filter is a set of numeric values; it contains no images.
• Activity — your likes, saves, follows, and blocks, so the features work.
• Reports — if you report content, the report you submit, used for moderation.

Your profile, published filters, and like counts are visible to other users. Your email, blocks, and reports are not.

Where your data is stored

Community data is stored and processed on our behalf by Supabase, our backend provider, on servers located in the European Union. We don't sell your data or share it with advertisers.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time from the app's settings. This permanently removes your profile, published filters, and activity. Copies of a filter that other users already saved may remain on their devices.

Camera and photo library access

effct. requests access to your camera to capture photos, and optionally to your Photo Library to save media. These permissions are managed by iOS and can be revoked at any time in Settings.

Subscriptions

Subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not have access to your payment information, Apple ID, or any transaction details.

Children's privacy

effct. is not directed to children under 13, and accounts require you to be at least 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country, if higher).

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update this page and the "last updated" date.
